SIETAR BC was in attendance this year at the National Aboriginal Day celebrations held at Trout Lake. The day kicked off with a walk from the Friendship Center to Trout Lake where we had the privilege of hosting a table. There we asked passersby to make their own postcards and write to Prime Minister Trudeau about what an “ideal” Canada would look like to them. Many children and families took part in this event and some great messages and calls for change were written. We then mailed the postcards to Ottawa and received an acknowledgment letter from The Office of the Prime Minister. We also asked people to pledge to help move forward some of the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Report, and while this was an important part of our contribution to the event, the postcards were the real draw for our participants.
