Akhilaa was born in Bangalore, India – a city that houses about 8 million people. After completing her Bachelors in Business Management and working for a few years, she was looking for global experience and hence decided to come to Vancouver Island to complete her education. Her first tryst with multiculturism was when she moved to Canada in 2013. Having a social personality, she was keen on making friends outside her comfort zone and her interest in learning about other cultures grew. During her Post degree diploma at North Island College, she made many friends from across the globe and also worked as an Intercultural Ambassador at the college – a position she describes as the best “job” she has had in her life!
After successfully completing her internship as an HR Assistant and subsequently graduating, she chanced upon an opportunity to work with an aquaculture company. In her new role as an HR, she enjoyed communicating and assisting employees from diverse backgrounds. She had to give up her position so she could return to her home country to get married. Currently she works as a Scheduler at Retirement Concepts and is looking for a full time position on the island. She is looking forward to volunteering with SIETAR BC and hopes to make connections with different cultures and of course lot of learning!
